AOBTA® Board of Directors | Election 2019

This year we are electing the president, director of education, director of communications, director of member services, and the member-at-large.

 

The Elections Committee is now accepting board nominations and candidate applications!

 

According to the Rules, Guidelines and Procedures (RGP's), Article VIII, Section 1, the Elections Committee shall call for nominations from the Voting members of the Organization  (Associate, Certified Practitioner, Registered Instructor, Certified Instructor, and Retired) and shall review and consider the qualifications of all proposed candidates, approving for nomination only those candidates who satisfy the qualifications specified by the established criteria for candidacy for the office for which they are candidates.

A nominee for any National Office within the organization must be a Voting member in good standing, with no grievances pending against him or her at the time of nomination. All nominees must meet the qualifying standards set for the various positions on the Board of Directors and published at the time of the Call for Nominations.

 

A candidate's nomination packet must include all of the following and must be submitted to the National Office by April, 15, 2019.

  • 2 Nominations from Voting members of the organization (one of the nominations may be by the candidate)
  • Letters of Recommendation for the candidate from the members that are nominating the candidate
  • A completed Candidate Application Form
  • A Letter of Intent by the candidate, stating willingness to serve and the reasons and aims for seeking the specific office.
  • The Candidate's resume
Election Timeline
  • March 2019 | Election cycle is launched
  • April 15, 2019 | Deadline for Candidates to submit completed Nomination Packets
  • May 1, 2019 | Election ballots will be presented to the Voting members (ballots and voting will only happen if there is more than one candidate for any position on the board)
  • June 1, 2019 | Deadline for Voting members to complete the ballots
  • June 5, 2019 | Election results are announced to the board of directors and the candidates
  • July 1, 2019 | Election results are announced to the membership and the  term of office for the new board of directors begins

Steps for Nominations and Candidates

How do I nominate a member for a position on the board of directors? 

  1. Begin by talking with the person you would like to nomination to make sure they want to be nominated and that they meet the eligibility requirements for the position you wish to nominate them for. 
  2. Prepare a letter of recommendation - which is a statement about why you are nominating the candidate for the position.
  3. Complete the Candidate Nomination Form (the form includes fields where you can either upload or copy and paste your letter of recommendation directly into the form).

How do I apply as a candidate for a position on the board of directors?

  1. Begin by reviewing the position descriptions and eligibility requirements to determine whether or not you are eligible as a candidate.
  2. Be sure you are familiar with the organization's Mission, Vision, Bylaws and RGP's.
  3. You may nominate yourself as a candidate or you can be nominated by 2 Voting members of the organization.
  4. Prepare your Letter of Intent. The Letter of Intent is your statement describing why your are seeking to serve on the board of directors and the reasons and goals you have for serving in the specific board position.
  5. Prepare your resume
  6. Complete the Candidate Application Form. The form includes fields for uploading your Letter of Intent and your resume.

 Board Position Descriptions

 

President

The President is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Administrative Officer and shall have such powers as are necessary for the functioning of the Organization, as prescribed by the Rules, Guidelines and Procedures, within the scope of the Bylaws of the Organization.

Duties:

  • Shall preside at and prepare the agenda for all general business meetings, all meetings of the Board of Directors, and approve the agenda for the National Membership Meeting during the National Convention. The President shall be the ex-officio member of all Committees of The Organization but shall not have a vote except to break a tie vote.
  • Shall approve all expenditures in the excess of $500.00.
  • Shall be responsible for adhering to the Board of Directors’ budget requirements and limitations.
  • Shall appoint or hire, with the approval of the Board of Directors, the Secretary to the Board.
  • Shall present a report of the activities of The Organization during the National Membership Meeting.
  • Shall conduct the day to day business affairs of The Organization in cooperation with the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and preside over the smooth functioning of the administrative office.
  • Shall appoint representatives for special projects.
  • Shall represent The Organization before other groups or agencies.
  • Shall have other such responsibilities and powers as are necessary for the supervision and functioning of The Organization as directed by the Board of Directors within the scope of the Bylaws of the Organization.

Director of Education

Shall Chair the Education Committee and shall have such powers as are necessary for the functioning of the Organization, as prescribed by the Rules, Guidelines, and Procedures, within the scope of the Bylaws of the Organization.

Duties:

  • Shall Chair the Education Committee (consisting of the State Chapter Education Chairs, Registered Instructors, and Certified Instructors), which is responsible for the following:
  • Establishing the contents of required curricula.
  • Defining requirements for certification of practitioners and instructors.
  • Establishing standard for accreditation of programs and schools.
  • Establishing standards for the recognition of new Forms.
  • Overseeing the educational content of public education programs.
  • Supervising the National Transcript.
  • Establishing policy for continuing education requirements.
  • Shall oversee any AOBTA® educational offerings including the National Convention, Regional Workshops, and State Chapter educational programs.
  • Shall oversee the development of COSP, in cooperation with the Director of COSP.
  • Shall co-chair meetings of COSP.
  • Shall co-chair the CI Interview Committee meeting, with the Chairperson of that Committee, at the National Convention.
  • Shall serve as a member of the ABT Forms Committee.
  • Shall oversee and support the State Chapter Education Chairs.
  • Shall carry out Organization business between board meetings.
  • Shall have such other responsibilities and powers as directed by the Board of Directors within the scope of the Bylaws of the Organization.
 
Member-at-Large

Shall be responsible for representing member concerns to the Board of Directors and shall have such powers as are necessary for the functioning of the Organization, as prescribed by the Rules, Guidelines, and Procedures, within the scope of the Bylaws of the Organization.

Duties:

  • Shall serve as the AOBTA® members’ direct contact with the Board of Directors. Any member may contact the Member-at-Large at any time and ask that the Member-at-Large convey their thoughts, concerns, or questions to the Board of Directors.
  • Shall serve on the Membership Committee and assist the Director of Membership in responding to communications from the members.
  • Shall serve on the State Chapter Committee and assist the Vice President in oversight of the Congress of Representatives.
  • Shall prepare reports on the board meetings to be published in AOBTA® Pulse.
  • Shall carry out Organization business between board meetings.
  • Shall have such other responsibilities and powers as directed by the Board of Directors within the scope of the Bylaws of The Organization.

 
Director of Communications

Shall chair the Communications Committee and shall have such powers as are necessary for the functioning of the Organization, as prescribed by the Rules, Guidelines, and Procedures, within the scope of the Bylaws of the Organization.

Duties:

  • Shall Chair the Communications Committee consisting of the editors of state chapter and regional newsletters, Editor-in-Chief of Pulse, the chair of the PR Committee and the editors of the Monthly Email Updates and social networking site material.
  • Shall oversee the AOBTA® Monthly Email Updates.
  • Shall oversee the AOBTA® Pulse newsletter.
  • Shall promote AOBTA® and ABT presence on social networking sites.
  • Shall oversee the Proofing Committee.
  • Shall identify opportunities to increase the quality and quantity of communication, where appropriate, both within and outside of The Organization.
  • Shall carry out Organization business between board meetings.
  • Shall have other such responsibilities and powers as directed by the Board of Directors within the scope of the Bylaws of The Organization.

 
Director of Member Services

Shall Chair the Member Services Committee and shall have such powers as are necessary for the functioning of the Organization, as prescribed by the Rules, Guidelines, and Procedures, within the scope of the Bylaws of the Organization.

Duties:

  • Shall Chair the Member Services Committee.
  • Shall oversee the creation and maintenance of membership benefits (such as insurance, discounts, resources, etc.).
  • Shall coordinate the development and provision of benefits and services that require the involvement of other board members or committees.
  • Shall carry out organization business between board meetings.
  • Shall have other such responsibilities and powers as directed by the Board of Directors within the scope of the Bylaws of The Organization.
